People in northwestern Spain gather around a fire to roast chestnuts during the months of October and November, when they fall ripe from the trees. This is another festivity often unheard of. Groups of people wander through the hills to collect them first, pierce them so that they do not burst on the stove, peel them and eat them with a glass of cider.
It has a rural flair, which is still important even in industrialised areas. It is also a good excuse to go on an excursion to the countryside with a group of friends or visit the old cottage many people still possess inhereted from their ancestors or bought as a second home. These days, those who can afford it, own properties in the countryside, which they hire to tourists, or keep for their holidays. Just have a look and enjoy!
